Hertfordshire Update (mid-September)

The situation is changing all the time, but the below is a snapshot of the current situation in Hertfordshire, as of mid-September 2015
  • Motion in support of the SVPS proposed by Simon Grover Green Party  has been passed by St Albans District Council  and referred to their Scrutiny Committee
  • Working group set up by Scrutiny Committee – first meeting held and second about to take place. St Albans Amnesty invited to  the working group
  • Scrutiny Committee looking for local solution
  • Scheme cannot go forward unless Health and Education at the County Council agree and there is resistance at the moment. 
  • Housing also needs to be found
  • County Councillor Chris White(Clarence Ward St Albans) talking to key people in County Council
  • Herts Welcoming Syrian Families(HWSF)  met with Chris White St Albans County  Councillor with links to leads in HCC and Chris Neilson Church and Community Officer for the Anglican diocese  on Thursday 9thSeptember
  • Motion of support for the SVPS scheme going to  Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council on 28th Sept
  • A meeting with Grant Shapps MP Wel Hat has taken place and he will be talking to other MPs.
  • Meeting with Leader and Deputy Leader of East Herts District Council took place 9th September
  • Meeting with North Herts Amnesty Group
  • Public Meeting to launch network in Bishops Stortford on 8th October
  • Letter to Anne Main MP St Albans acknowledged and meeting being arranged.
  • Individuals to continue to write to their District & County Councillors across Hertfordshire to persuade HCC departments to agree.
  • HWSF to explore solutions to concerns of County Council- housing group to be set up and group to form themselves into a charity.
  •  Explore using  media to raise profile of the scheme and support within Hertfordshire
  • HWSF to ask to attend interfaith group meetings across the area( The Anglican diocese has been contacted.)
