Bicycle Scheme

Refugees with HWR bikes
thank you for bikes
Having a bike provides freedom, exercise, and the means to travel to work or school.  Since 2017, over 100 donated bikes have been repaired and given to refugee children and adults throughout Hertfordshire.

Can you help in any of these ways?
  •  Donating a bike or bikes.
  •  Collecting/delivering bikes around part of the county - you specify the area.
  •  Checking/repairing bikes.
  •  Donating pumps, locks, high-vis jackets, lights or new helmets.

We also need STORAGE!

Update:

The bike scheme team are looking for any bike enthusiasts to join them, and volunteer with delivering bicycles. We also are looking for anyone who lives near St Albans and has extra garage space where bicycles that are ready for delivery could be stored. This would allow our mechanic to have the space to work on bicycles in the rented Borehamwood garage, as space is often a limiting factor with how quickly we can work on bikes and get them out for delivery.

If you think you could offer this storage space to us, do get in touch via : [email protected]

Bikeability Scheme:
If you or your child are looking for cycling training please look at the website below to search for local Bikeability training. Bikeability is a UK-based cycling education programme designed to teach children (and sometimes adults) how to ride safely and confidently on the road. It’s typically delivered in three progressive levels: Level 1 focuses on basic bike handling skills in a traffic-free environment, Level 2 introduces riding on quiet roads with simple junctions, and Level 3 develops more advanced skills for dealing with busier roads and complex traffic situations.

“We delivered A his bike on Sunday. He was delighted. That afternoon the whole family went to a local park with their bikes. It was great to see them all enjoying that time together.

The bike you gave us is going to enable A to travel to local places with ease. He is very grateful. We will help him to get used to riding on the road, where necessary. Thank you for all your help and generosity and all you do.” - Community Group from North Herts
