Cooking Sessions for Asylum Seekers

We've been supporting asylum seekers in hostels for over a year. Living without kitchen facilities means that they don't have control over what they eat and must rely on reheated meals. Not being able to choose or prepare your own food can add to a feeling of helplessness.

Our volunteers recently arranged some cooking sessions in a church kitchen so that some of the asylum seekers we support could prepare the foods they've been missing from home. Afterwards they enjoyed sharing and eating the food, which included Iraqi dishes and an Ethiopian spicy chicken soup (Doro wat).
