A Cup of Tea for Afghanistan

15/9/2021

On Sunday, Vicky Woodcraft, a trustee of Herts Welcomes Refugees, gave an update on the situation for Afghan refugees in Hertfordshire at a fundraising event, “A Cup of Tea for Afghanistan” in Welwyn Garden City.

The event was the brainchild of Michal Siewniak of the Welwyn Hatfield Polish community and was hosted by the Focolare Centre for Unity. Over thirty people took part in an informal quiz about Afghanistan, enjoyed tea and cake, and listened to Vicky outline Herts Welcomes Refugees’ work with refugees, both in the past and looking to the future. Afterwards, Ana Siewniak of the Hertfordshire Community Foundation (HCF) explained how her organisation supports community and voluntary groups throughout Hertfordshire.

Donations of over £120 were collected for HWR, and the attendees left with a greater understanding of the support that HWR is currently giving, and will continue to provide as Afghan families settle in our county.
