Sources of finance for higher and further education for asylum seekers and refugees

In addition to Sanctuary scholarships for university or student loans (loans are only for refugees) there are other sources of finance for students taking Higher or Further Education courses.

They are for differing amounts, some small, some larger, and each has its own restrictions and application process, for example some are for those studying a particular subject.

Turn 2 Us is a grant search tool which allows students to enter their postcode to access information on grants they could apply for. https://www.turn2us.org.uk/get-support/apply-for-grants

Refugee Education UK | Education Funding Options (reuk.org)  is a useful organisation that lists many of the grant possibilities.

Individual grant and bursary giving organisations

Hope for the Young
Hope for the Young (up to £4,500) open to those aged 16 – 28. Grants are awarded in April.

The Black Heart Scholars Programme

COSARAF https://www.cosaraf.org/hardship-application/

Helena Kennedy Foundation (HKF) https://www.hkf.org.uk/
Financial support, usually in the form of a £2,250 bursary provided in instalments during your time in higher education.  Most students who make a successful application to the Foundation will receive a bursary but they also offer some scholarships, in partnership with individual universities, which may be offered instead of a bursary award.

The National Zakat Foundation Education Fund provides grants for education and training to help Muslims who can demonstrate a high level of commitment to community service, to help them to better serve Islam and Muslims in the UK.
